Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips twirls streamers during a performance at The Flaming Lips’ New Year’s Eve Freakout at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
This show was insane. I’ve always liked The Lips and have heard from many that their shows are great. Even with all of the hype, they managed to surpass my expectations.
It is my most memorable New Year’s Eve to date. Thanks in large part to my friends who made it even more special. Especially Dean Wilhite for getting me the ticket as a Christmas gift and Nathan Poppe for nabbing a couple photo passes to get us as close to the band as the bubble that encased Wayne Coyne at the beginning of the show. (Video to come)
The best seats, though, were after midnight, when The Lips paired up with Stardeath and White Dwarfs to cover Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” It was unbeatable.

Great Shot Zach
