Luke Ashpole, age 7, carries his 39.7 ounce carp up the rocks to be weighed at Arcadia Lake during the 19th annual Kids All-American Fishing Derby.
This is where I spent the first three waking hours of my Saturday. And as hard as was for me to get up and out of the house by 7 a.m. (special thanks to Asher), it was a lot of fun to go see all of the kids and their parents fishing on the shores of Arcadia Lake.
So far, I haven’t been able to spend so much time on a single assignment. Thanks to the fact that it was Saturday, I was open. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it was – to me – very interesting. It’s cool to see involved parents taking part in a fun local outing.
I had a hard time picking which image to use for this post, which is a good thing. If you have an extra second, go to this album go through the photos – there are only nine – and leave a comment telling me which is your favorite (1-9).

Edmond – A Place to Grow.
Does Edmond claim Arcadia Lake?
They own it.
Dang. I guess they lost out on the naming rights.
Fun fact: the lake was named Arcadia Lake before Arcadia, OK, was recognized as a town in Oklahoma. the two occurrences happened months apart in 1987.
… before then, Arcadia (the town) was basically like Deer Creek-Edmond … a defined area/school district/train station.
… “is this a great state or what?”
i just realized in the picture above, the kid is making the same face the fish is.
That is a cool fact. But I bet locals still called the area Arcadia previous to that.
Good eye on the fish face!
Hard to pic a favorite – they are all really good! Actually, you didn’t post my favorite (the one with the little guy reeling in the big one).
